How To Protect Yourself And Your Family During Cold And Flu Season

This year, Americans have been more vigilant than ever before about personal health and hygiene. As cold and flu season approaches, we are wearing masks, washing our hands and using hand sanitizer more frequently. But our hands are not the only parts of our body that we should be sanitizing.

Germs can spread via respiratory droplets that land in the nose or transfer from hands to nose. Sanitizing the nose can helpreducethe spread of germs and risk of infection by interrupting the cycle of contamination between hands and nose. This simple protective step is “the other half of prevention.” As we continue to battle COVID-19 during cold and flu season, the “Sanitize Your Nose” public health campaign aims to raise awareness of the nose as a hot spot for infectious germs.

If you have plans for holiday travel and family gatherings, there are important steps you should take in order to help reduce the risk of infection.

Dr. Michael Manyak offers his helpful tips on how to stay healthy during the cold and flu season, including while traveling.
