Teacher transforms class into H-E-B for lesson with help from community

A teacher in North East ISD had a spur of the moment idea, which has turned viral over the weekend.

Vanessa Kerr, a second grade teacher at Royal Ridge Elementary, said she got an idea to turn her class into an H-E-B late at night. The transformation was for the ending on her classes unit on coins.

All she needed was a little help from her friends.

According to Kerr, a student's parent, her own grandparents and even H-E-B themselves pitched in to make her idea a reality.

Friday, the kids walked in and found their class completely different than the day before. Kerr said her class, along with all the second graders at Royal Ridge, took part in the shopping adventure. Each student took turns as a cashier and a shopper, identifying and counting coins to give them real world experience.

Kerr, who lives in Cibolo, Texas, said the Shertz H-E-B donated signs and sticker name tags for the students to wear during class. A parent helped donate shirts, signs, a basket with food and H-E-Buddy goodies while a friend donated shirts. Her grandparents gave her class cash registers for the day as well.

Her class included signs, a cash register, register lights and much more. Check it out in the slideshow above.
