SAN ANTONIO - The dog days of summer may be reaching their end, but not before National Dog Day!

The holiday is held every year on August 26. It was founded in 2004 by Colleen Paige, an animal welfare advocate and pet lifestyle expert. The day is designed to call raise awareness of dogs that are waiting to be rescued and find new homes. It also gives dog owners an opportunity to honor their faithful companions.
