Improve Your Mood with Plants, and Ensure They Live Long Lives
Houseplants aren't just pretty, they boost our mood, clean our air, and never judge us even when we forget to water them. Jesus Lopez is a houseplant specialist with Rainbow Gardens, to show us how to show our houseplants some love.
He talked about the repotting process, which can be nerve wracking, but is a necessary process when taking care of a plant. Some signs that you'll need to repot your plant are:
-If your plant is struggling to grow
-If you can see the roots, they will be tangled and tight in their pot
-If your plant is looking less vibrant then usual
He recommends a high-quality soil, especially their Fox Farm potting soil, as well as perlite that keeps your plants moisturized. If you have any questions, you can ask an expert at Rainbow Gardens and they will help you choose the best soil, help with repotting, and more!
To begin the repotting process, set up a bin or contained area so the soil doesn't go down your drains or in your house. Combine the potting soil and perlite, adding more perlite the dryer the plant is.
Grip the base of your plant and pull it out of the pot, then loosen up the roots by removing some of the soil.
Find a new larger pot, make sure it is around 1or 2 inches larger than the root system of your current plant, too large, and your plant may struggle.
Finish up by placing your plant in the new pot and then cover the roots with the soil mixture you've created, just under the rim of your pot.
