Barbacoa & Big Red coming to Taco Cabana on Friday

SAN ANTONIO – Starting Friday, when you buy two barbacoa tacos at Taco Cabana you’ll get a free 12-ounce can of Big Red.

This offer is valid while supplies last at participating Taco Cabana locations in San Antonio and Austin only.

This barbacoa and Big Red special is available through curbside, pick-up, drive-thru, in-restaurant, and via mobile order through the My TC! App. Not available through third party delivery providers.

Barbacoa and Big Red are two of the most iconic food and drink pairings in South Texas. Barbacoa is a slow-cooked beef or goat dish that is traditionally cooked in an underground pit, but can also be made in a slow cooker or oven. Big Red is a carbonated cream soda that is popular throughout the southern United States, but is especially beloved in Texas.

The smoky, savory flavor of the barbacoa perfectly complements the sweet, creamy taste of the Big Red. The Big Red also helps to cut through the richness of the barbacoa, making it a refreshing and satisfying meal.

Barbacoa and Big Red are often enjoyed together at breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are also a popular pairing for special occasions, such as barbecues, tailgates, and parties.

History of Barbacoa

Barbacoa is a traditional Mexican dish that has been around for centuries. It is thought to have originated with the indigenous people of Mexico, who would cook meat in underground pits to preserve it. The Spanish conquistadors adopted the dish and brought it to Europe, where it became popular throughout the Iberian Peninsula.

Barbacoa was introduced to Texas by Mexican settlers in the early 1800s. It quickly became a popular dish in the region, and is now considered to be a staple of South Texas cuisine.

Barbacoa and Big Red Festival

The Barbacoa and Big Red Festival is an annual San Antonio event that celebrates this iconic food and drink pairing. The festival features a variety of barbacoa and Big Red vendors, as well as live music and entertainment.

The fan-favorite festival will take place on October 7th and 8th at the R&J Music Pavilion. There will be performances by Jase Martin, Chris Cuevas, SA Lights, Conjunto Cats, Tex-Tones, Selestial Alcoser, and much more.
