Cleanest Kitchen: The Hotdogologist brings New York style dogs with Texas twist

SAN ANTONIO - A New Yorker who fell in love with the taste and nostalgia of a hotdog decided to share his expertise with Texas. The Hotdogologist owner, Michael Puno says that he loved hotdogs growing up as a kid when he and his mother would visit hotdog carts in New York. After moving away from the Big Apple, Puno said that he had a hard time finding a good hotdog. After years of joking with his friends about one day opening a hotdog stand, he finally committed and began sharing his love for the American classic.

Puno retired after 22 years in the military and decided to put his dream into effect by buying a hotdog cart.

When Puno came to San Antonio, he wanted to serve New York's #1 classic - Sebrett hotdogs that are made with 100% beef. Puno shared that it's the dog that New Yorkers really look for!

If you were to step inside The Hotdogologist shop, you will find a cozy patio, a hotdog cart, and New York memorabilia covered on the walls. Puno says that being in the military for so long has taught him that things need to be just right.

"Cleanliness is Godliness," says Puno. "I don't get nervous about inspections because if you do everything the right way every day, then you're ready every time."

Puno shares that he also has a food truck for events if people want to have an inexpensive meal. He will arrive in his 1965 Volkswagon bus for birthday parties, family reunions, or even company events.

If you are intimidated by the menu, don't fret - Micheal Puno will serve your taste buds whatever you are looking for. Just tell him what you're in the mood for!

Local favorites include the Brooklyn with brown mustard, dill relish, and red onion sauce. The Manhattan with brown mustard, dill relish, and Sauerkraut.

The Texas Twist from the restaurant is introduced by adding nacho cheese, hot Cheeto crumbles, dill relish, and jalapeno slices to the 210 Dawg.

The Fiesta Dog is made with chili, cheese, jalapeno ranch, garlic aioli sauce, and Frito chips. Lastly, the Sweet Child of Mine was my favorite with a tangy, sweet combination of honey mustard, sweet relish, and sweet Vidalia onion relish.
