From dream to reality: The flavorful journey of Wayne's Wings

SAN ANTONIO - Wayne's Wings has become more than a restaurant; it's a dream turned into a flavorful reality.

Dwayne Price, the man behind the wings, shared insights into his culinary venture. For Dwayne and his restaurant, cleanliness is not just about maintaining high scores; it's a commitment to health and doing things right.

It's very important to keep the facilities clean. Not just because of the scores but because of health reasons. We want to make sure we're doing everything right and keep all of our stuff clean. Especially since you know, the COVID came around. You know, we're we're really on top of things here, making sure we keep it clean.

The story of Wayne's Wings traces back to 2010 when Dwayne turned his lifelong dream into reality. Encouraged by his father to pursue his passion, Dwayne set his sights on becoming a successful businessman in the restaurant industry. His dream materialized, marking the beginning of Wayne's Wings.

Dwayne's culinary journey started at the age of 16, working at McDonald's and later on a military base in Fort Dix, New Jersey. Falling in love with the kitchen's competitive spirit, he explored different facets, including hospitals, to understand diverse diets. Upon moving to Texas, he contributed to opening restaurants like Cheesecake Factory and Macaroni Grill, all while nurturing his dream of having his own establishment, Wayne's Wings.

The decision to focus on wings was a personal one. Dwayne wanted to offer something he could enjoy daily. Given his fondness for wings and Philly cheese steaks, the menu at Wayne's Wings was born.

The award-winning restaurant boasts a variety of flavors, with top sellers like the Texas Honey Bee, featuring a sweet and sour sauce with a hint of heat, and the Jacob Sriracha, a delightful blend of Sriracha, lime juice, and cilantro. The Duke, a customer-inspired creation, combines Caribbean jerk, sweet mustard, barbecue sauce, and lemon pepper.

Wayne's Wings encourages customer input, even incorporating local suggestions into their menu. The restaurant aims to be the go-to wing spot where customers can mix and match flavors according to their preferences.

"The Duke is inspired by one of our customers. One day they were like, 'You know, what? Can you put this on there? Put that on there?' It was like Caribbean jerk sweet mustard, barbecue sauce, and lemon pepper. And it really came out tasting good. I was surprised! So we put it on the menu."

An intriguing creation, the funnel cake wing, was inspired by Dwayne's wife's love for funnel cakes during Fiesta time. Coated in powdered sugar and cinnamon, this unique wing captures the essence of a favorite fair treat.

As Wayne's Wings continues to delight San Antonio locals, Dwayne has his eyes set on expansion. Actively seeking a location for the third establishment, Dwayne envisions further growth within the next year.

Dwayne expressed gratitude to his dedicated team, recognizing their contribution to Wayne's Wings' success. Freddy, managing the Bandera location, and the rest of the team play a crucial role in maintaining the restaurant's excellence.

"My team - I just give all the credit to them. They're the ones holding it down there to win and keep the place clean. They're taking care of our customers and they're doing an excellent job."

Wayne's Wings, beyond being a culinary haven, stands as a testament to one man's dream, the power of dedication, and the flavors that bring people together in the heart of San Antonio.
