Mashed potatoes top the list as favorite Christmas side among Texans, survey reveals

As families all across Texas tuck into their Christmas dinners on Monday, BonusFinder.com wanted to find out which festive food trends define the Lone Star State for 2023.

After surveying more than 3,000 Americans on their Christmas meal traditions, Bonus Finder came up with the following statistics.

Mashed potatoes were revealed to be the most popular Christmas side among Texans, with more than one in four (25.7%) respondents voting for the classic.

Meanwhile, tamales and bread or rolls share the second place slot, with more than one in five (21%) Texans giving their votes to these sides.

Dressing (18%) and gravy (17.7%) took third and fourth place, while the fifth spot was tied between macaroni and cheese and green bean casserole with 16 percent of the votes.

  • Mashed potatoes - 25.7%
  • Tamales & Bread or rolls (Tied) - 21%
  • Dressing - 18%
  • Gravy - 17.7%
  • Macaroni and cheese & Green bean casserole (Tied) - 16%
  • Fruit salad - 15.7%
  • Stuffing - 15.3%
  • Cranberry sauce - 14.3%
  • Deviled eggs - 13.3%
  • Candied yams - 13%

As for the main event, 33% of Texans are topping their tables with roast turkey, while 25% of voters crowned cheesecake as the most popular dessert.
