SAN ANTONIO - Most days you'd find him serving up delicious treats for local veterans, but this week local Pastry Chef Pasquale Loera is climbing to the top in a national competition, and he needs your votes to take home the prize.
“I’ve always said that food is my love language. And through my baking talents I am able to spread the love to my community!” explained Chef Pasquale.
Chef Pasquale is competing in the "Greatest Baker" competition, which doubles as a fundraiser for children's cancer through the B Positive Foundation. He needs your support to win!
Pasquale serves delicious treats to local veterans. He's dedicated to giving back to veterans, especially the often-forgotten retirement community.
What's your favorite thing to bake?
I fell in loving with cake decorating as a child while watching my grandmother create cakes for the family. As time went on and after graduating for the Culinary Institute of America, I gained a passion for artisan bread and chocolates. They are on two separate ends of the baking spectrum, which is why I love making both. I am a very detail-oriented person, but still enjoy allowing nature to take its course when it comes to my creations. It’s hard to just pick one!
How long have you been baking?
As a child I would bake cookies and sell them, before I was legally able to work. I was always experimenting with recipes and techniques until I went to college. Food has always been a passion of mine, but professionally I’ve been in the industry for over 5 years now. From working in grocery store bakeries to 5- diamond Hotels to now running my own department at a retirement facility for military veterans. I am happy to have found a passion and create the opportunities to make it a career.
What would you do with the $20,000?
With the $20,000 I would use it to put a down payment on a property to be able to open up a bakery of my own.
