At the heart of San Antonio’s Pearl District, Elise Miller, Managing Director at Bakery Lorraine, opened up about her daughter Kaya’s life-changing liver transplant and the bakery’s heartfelt partnership with the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA).
Kaya, now a thriving 14-year-old, received a liver transplant at just four years old after being diagnosed with a rare disease called biliary atresia. “Knowing she was going to receive the gift of life brought us hope,” Elise shared.
Bakery Lorraine has since become a beacon of support for TOSA’s recovery teams, providing baked goods to hospital staff working long, emotional shifts. “It’s such a gift to us,” said Jessica Rudd, Vice President at TOSA.
With over 10,000 Texans currently on the transplant waitlist, TOSA encourages the community to register as organ donors and consider joining their Friends for Life volunteer program. Learn more at TOSA1.org.
