Mental health struggles often begin early, often as young as age 14. That’s why Pathways to Hope is working to break the stigma and provide education and support to those who need it most.
Boxing champion James Leija and mental health educator Norma Quintero joined us to talk about the mission behind Pathways to Hope. For James, the cause is deeply personal, he lives with bipolar disorder and knows firsthand how important it is to talk openly about mental health. He compares the journey to boxing: “You go into the gym and work hard just to be 1% better every day. Mental health is the same, it’s about showing up and putting in the work.”
Norma emphasized that education is key, especially for young people who may feel isolated or misunderstood. Pathways to Hope helps them realize they’re not alone and that there are resources and communities ready to support them.
With events, outreach, and a strong message of hope, Pathways to Hope is creating a space where mental health is no longer a taboo topic, but a shared journey toward healing and strength.
