On the Record: Lil Jon’s Zen Era, Verzuz Returns, and Seacrest Shoots His Shot

X catches us up on what's going on this week in the world of music!

Story 3:
Have you ever done yoga? Or gotten a massage? You know that ambience music playing in the background? When they say “Take a moment now to breathe — in through your nose, out through your mouth.” What changes when the leader of your mental retreat is the guy known for turning up in the club? Rapper and producer Lil Jon has been focused a lot on meditation recently — so much so that he decided to put out an album that would feature his own mantras instead of music. Although the album was dropped over a year ago, it was released with little to no fanfare. He has just started touring to support the project. He recently appeared on a national radio show to assure the masses that indeed sometimes you have to turn down.

Story 2:
Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s Verzuz battle series is finally set to return this month — and there’s a heavyweight clash on the cards. The legendary producers announced that Verzuz will make its comeback on October 25 at Complex Con in Las Vegas, where fans will get to see Cash Money Records face off against No Limit Records. Although both crews rep the New Orleans area, they’ve had a bit of a rivalry from the 90s to the 2000s. Birdman and Slim’s Cash Money empire is responsible for the success of Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Juvenile, B.G., Mannie Freshand Tyga. The house that Master P built, meanwhile, turned the likes of Mystikal, Silkk The Shocker, Mia X, C-Murder, TRU and Soulja Slim into cult stars. So will this turn into one of the most watched Verzuz battles yet? Or is the format past its prime?

Story 1:
Looks like Ryan Seacrest has found yet another job. He just got conveniently ordained, so on top of his million other gigs, he’s tossing his hat in the ring to officiate Taylor Swift’s wedding. And yes — the pop queen is already in the know! Ryan told Taylor he’d taken the online course to get ordained and said he’d be down to officiate her wedding to Travis Kelce. Taylor was totally thrilled, calling it such an honor to be offered but quickly tossed in a polite, “That is fantastic, you guys are amazing .”So, guess that was a polite no. Looks like the officiator gig is still wide open.
