Legal Myths Busted: What you think you know might be all wrong

From viral videos to courtroom dramas, legal misinformation is everywhere. Nico LaHood sets the record straight.

Whether you're hooked on crime dramas, true crime podcasts, or law-related content on your social media feed, there's no shortage of legal information out there, but not all of it is accurate. Nico LaHood, former district attorney and partner at LaHood Norton Law Group, joined us to separate fact from fiction when it comes to the law.

Here are five common myths he helped debunk...

Police must always have a warrant to search you.
MYTH. There are several exceptions to the warrant requirement, including consent, probable cause, and certain emergency situations.

Bail is guaranteed.
MYTH. Bail is not a right in every case. Judges can deny bail depending on the severity of the crime or risk factors.

You can be arrested without evidence.
MYTH. Law enforcement must have probable cause to make an arrest. Arrests without sufficient evidence can be challenged in court.

Police can’t lie during interrogations.
MYTH. In most states, police are legally allowed to use deception during questioning, which is why having legal representation is so important.

If you're innocent, you don't need a lawyer.
MYTH. Innocence doesn’t guarantee protection from legal consequences. A lawyer ensures your rights are protected and helps you navigate the legal system effectively.

Understanding your rights and the realities of the legal system is crucial, especially in a world where misinformation spreads fast.
