Protecting your pets from hot pavement and heat stroke

With the triple-digit heat continuing this week, it's important to remain weather aware and take extra precautions when outdoors, for ourselves as well as our furry friends.

As the day gets hotter, so does the pavement, grass, and other surfaces your pet's paws walk on.

Even when the temperature is 80 degrees outside, it could be dangerous for your pet to walk on the concrete sidewalks around your home.

Knowing the signs of heat stroke in pets is important during the hotter summer months:

• Excessive drooling and panting
• Possible vomiting
• Lethargic or weak
  

The best times to let your pets outdoors is during the cooler temperatures at the beginning and end of the day.
