Rapid Fire: Subscription for Horsepower?
#NeedForSpeed
Volkswagen introduced a monthly fee for its electric cars, where people have to pay extra to unlock the full horsepower. They're only doing it in the U.K. for now. You get around 15% more horsepower for $22 a month. They're framing it as giving people options. If you drive like a grandma, you might only want 200 horsepower, and if you need more zip, you can pay for it.
They're not the first car company that's tried to gouge customers like this. A few years ago, BMW tried to charge folks in the U.K. to use their heated seats. They ended up nixing it after too many complaints. Drivers in the U.K. who want the extra zip will have to pay $22 a month for the privilege, or a yearly fee of around $225.There's also the option of paying a one-time fee of $880. Volkswagen says that option keeps it unlocked, even if you sell the car. Good option if you have teens or nah?
#BigGame
We just started the football season, and people are already gossiping about the BIG Game in February. Not about which teams will be in it but who will play at halftime.
Taylor Swift might've hinted at headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show last week when she said she's obsessed with sourdough. Sourdough Sam is the mascot for the 49ers, and that's where Super Bowl 60 will go down. As much as the Swifties would love this.... could this work considering the majority of the viewing audience is middle aged America?

#NoNewFriends
A poll of Gen Z'ers and Millennials found having friends costs you an average of $250 a month. That's money spent on things like brunches, dinners, bar nights, and general hangs.
44% have skipped a major event with friends because of the cost, and one in four say social spending makes it hard to save any money. But the pressure to meet up is just too much for a lot of younger adults. 24% say they'd feel left out if they couldn't do what their friends were doing because they couldn't afford it.
A lot of people are in the same boat though, and it's leading to new strategies among friend groups. 23% agreed with the statement, "My friends and I prioritize 'no spend hangs' so we can spend time together without spending money."
