SAN ANTONIO - The Pearl has kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a colorful masterpiece with inspiring words.

The Pearl was able to present a mural that kicked off the festivities Monday afternoon.

The MMCreative Studio presented three powerful words near the Pearl's courtyard, "Cultura. Orgullo. Corazón." which translates to Culture. Pride. Heart.

“This mural describes San Antonio as a community and Pearl as a place where everyone is welcome and where the community comes together,” says Martha Martinez-Flores of MMCreative.

Viva Dieciséis at Pearl

Saturday, September 16 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Pearl is celebrating Dieciséis de Septiembre, or the Sixteenth of September, honoring Mexico’s Independence from Spain. The celebration will include live musical performances, a grito contest, and activities for the kids including Lotería, guitar painting and more. Viva Dieciséis at Pearl kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month at Pearl.

Vamos a Bailar with Esta Noche Dance Company

Sundays, Sept. 24, Oct. 1, & Oct. 8 from 6 – 9 p.m.

Pearl and Esta Noche Dance Company partner to bring free, high-energy dance classes to Pearl Park this fall! Classes are open to the public and will feature a mix of bachata and salsa classes that are geared towards all levels. You don’t need a partner to enjoy class or, if you don’t want to participate feel free to sit back and enjoy the music.

Throughout Pearl’s 22-acre neighborhood, retailers, including Curio, Limatus Bespoke, Ten Thousand Villages, Dos Carolinas, Rancho Diaz, Adelante, Feliz Modern & The Tiny Finch, Niche and LeeLee will feature Latin makers and artisans through displays and in-store events. In addition, the Pearl neighborhood will transform into a “Mercadito Cultural,” or night market, every Wednesday night.

Wednesday night markets starting September 20

Pearl Farmers Market presents “Mercadito Cultural” from 5:00-9:00 p.m. on September 20, 27 and October 4. Join us as we support talented chefs, artisans, and captivating performances that showcase the richness of Hispanic culture including live performances by Mariachi Las Alteñas each week. Find local vendors like Fiesta Feet, Hernan, Alebrije, Chasing Camila and several vendors from Mexico in partnership with the Consulado General de México en San Antonio.

Cultura. Orgullo. Corazon Mural

Wednesday, September 11

Pearl and MMCreative Studio will present a colorful mural meant to capture the spirit of San Antonio through three powerful words: Cultura. Orgullo. Corazón. which translates to Culture. Pride. Heart. “This mural describes San Antonio as a community and Pearl as a place where everyone is welcome and where the community comes together,” says Martha Martinez-Flores of MMCreative.

Alebrije Collection

Wednesday, October 4 – Sunday, October 8

For the first time ever, Pearl will be home to two Alebrijes from the private collection of Chef Johnny Hernandez and La Gloria. These colorful spirit creatures will light up Pearl for one weekend only.

Calavera Collection

Wednesday, September 20 – Sunday, October 1

Pearl will be home to four Calaveras from the private collection of Chef Johnny Hernandez and La Gloria. Each Calavera is created in partnership with a local artist and features colorful flowers, patterns and stories.

A number of Pearl restaurants and concepts will feature specials, seasonal menus and ticketed events highlighting chefs, menus and drinks, including:

Chiles en Nogada Dinner at Cured

Saturday, September 16 | 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm | Cured

Join Chef Steve McHugh and Chef Sergio Remolina for a very special three-course meal with wine pairings celebrating Mexican Independence Day and the history of Chiles en Nogada. Including a welcome reception and a lecture by Consul General of Mexico, Ruben Minutti, about the origin and meaning of the dish. Secure your spot by visiting the event link here.

Carriqui

Carriqui will kick-off celebrations on September 16 with a special performance from Las Coronelas starting at 4 p.m. During Hispanic Heritage Month, Tequila Tuesdays will feature half-priced margaritas and Mezcal, tequila & wine tastings.

And, on September 27, in partnership with UTSA and the Consulado General de México en San Antonio, Carriqui will host Ven a Tomar, where guests will sample mezcal, cocktails and unique bites while learning from Mezcal expert Pedro Jiménez Gurría. Artwork from UTSA’s Special Collections will also be on display for viewing. Tickets go on sale soon at carriquitx.com

Boiler House

Boiler House will host a Tips & Tastings event on September 13 which will feature a selection of wine tastings and small bites, as well as a Tequila Dinner on September 28, showcasing Codigo tequila. The restaurant will also feature a Brisket Empanada appetizer throughout the month which includes avocado, queso fresco, pickled onions and roasted salsa.

Botika

Botika will offer their signature "Spicy Pineapple Frozen Margarita" for $10 during the month of September and will also feature "tequenhos", Venezuelan cheese fritters, as an homage to the Hispanic influence in the restaurant’s cuisine.

Hotel Emma

Hotel Emma starts Hispanic Heritage Month with a culinary celebration led by James Beard Award nominee Pastry Chef Sofia Tejeda and Sous Chef Cristina Rojas. Join us at Supper's Swiggle Key private dining room on Thursday, September 14, 2023 for a special six-course dinner inspired by Central Mexico's cuisine, complemented by thoughtful beverage pairings.
