SAN ANTONIO - Homecoming mums are a unique Texas tradition that dates back to the early 1900s. Originally, mums were simply chrysanthemum blooms given to girls by their dates to wear to the homecoming football game. Over time, the tradition evolved and mums became more elaborate, decorated with ribbons, trinkets, and other embellishments.
