San Antonio’s own Henry Cisneros—former mayor and U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development—has been awarded one of Japan’s highest honors: The Order of the Rising Sun. This prestigious award recognizes his decades-long commitment to strengthening ties between San Antonio and Japan.
To mark the occasion, the San Antonio Philharmonic is hosting a special concert in Cisneros’ honor this week. We spoke with Roberto Treviño and Jeffrey Kahane about what guests can expect.
The performance will include classical pieces that highlight the Philharmonic’s range and artistry, with selections that honor both American and Japanese musical traditions. Both national anthems will be performed, as well as music with cultural significance to both countries.
The event is free to attend, but seating is limited. Guests are encouraged to RSVP early at SAPhil.org to secure their spot.
