Sure, D.C. is known for its museums and monuments, but there is nothing mundane about our nation’s capital. And if that’s all you think there is, I’m afraid it’s time I tell you to take a hike, literally.

One of the most thrilling treks is right within reach when you’re here. Or, how about heading underground to explore a crypt tucked underneath one of America’s most beautiful cathedrals?

And that’s just scratching the surface.

While Washington, D.C. is a city defined by political movers and shakers from all sides of the aisle, there is an undercurrent of creativity found in some circles that anyone can uncover – if you know where to look. Hint: The answer may be right beneath you.

What’s not beneath any of us is marveling at the city’s famed landmarks, whether it be the Lincoln Memorial or – if you come in the spring – a special display that has blossomed into one of the world’s most beloved spectacles.

Some may say that these things are too touristy, but as a person who actively avoids such traps on a regular basis, I will say one thing: You won’t be disappointed (provided you greet the blossoms at sunrise, promptly).
