Moab's Wild Holiday Adventure

New York has the Rockefeller Tree, but Moab has something wilder. Travel journalist Jennifer Broome joined us live from Moab, partnering with Discover Moab to share festive and adventurous fun.
Moab’s Festive Tree
Celebrate the season with a centuries-old Pinyon pine lit and powered by the sun for the entire month of December. Located on the iconic Slickrock Bike Trail, this tree shines against a backdrop of silence, stars, and timeless red rock landscapes. Winter brings fewer crowds, making it the perfect time for solitude and stunning views. Cold mornings give way to warm afternoons, ideal for hiking, biking, and stargazing.
National Parks in Winter
Moab is home to two of the most beloved national parks: Arches and Canyonlands. In winter, these parks transform into serene wonderlands. Popular trails like Delicate Arch are blissfully uncrowded, and sunrise at Mesa Arch is a must-see without the usual crowds. Advanced hikers can snag a permit for Fiery Furnace. Nearby, Dead Horse Point State Park offers breathtaking views 2,000 feet above the Colorado River, and Utahraptor State Park boasts one of North America’s largest dinosaur bone beds.
Adventures Beyond the Parks
Moab is an adventure hub year-round. Its bustling Main Street is the perfect basecamp, with coffee shops, restaurants, artisan stores, and museums. From hiking and biking to canyoneering, river rafting, and off-roading, Moab delivers unforgettable experiences. Solo travelers will love the array of outfitters offering guided trips, from horseback riding to rock climbing.
Stargazing Paradise
Both Arches and Canyonlands are designated International Dark Sky Parks, and Moab itself is an International Dark Sky Community. With minimal light pollution, you’ll witness spectacular starry skies over jaw-dropping landscapes.
